The people over at Lollapalooza decided to annoyingly reveal individual letters of the lineup this year in a Wheel of Fortune puzzle. It didn’t take very long for people to figure out who some of the headliner bands were (i.e. Soundgarden, Green Day, Lady Gaga), but many bands still remained a mystery. Well today there is no mystery. The official lineup has been announced to an awaiting internet blogosphere. Check it out:

“White Sky” by Vampire Weekend. My favorite track off of Contra.
Yesterday Drag City posted this cartoon on its website. Though no explanation was offered, many viewers formed their own ideas about its meaning. Some thought this was Joanna Newsom’s quirky attempt to announce that she is pregnant. Others suggested that it meant a new album is to be released on February 23 (see upper right hand corner).
Thanks to Joanna’s Austrian label, Spunk, they broke the news for us. The new album is called “Have One on Me” and will be released on February 23! Hooray that’s my birthday too. A great present indeed.
Yeasayer is soon to put out their follow-up to the critically acclaimed album, All Hour Cymbals. They’ve even released the album’s first single, “Ambling Ap,” an addicting track featuring colorful synths, deep tribal drums and a visually compelling video to follow suit. The band sounds more confident than before and have also come into their own amongst several other similar bands. On their previous album, there were many great moments but none of them seemed to remain permanently transfixed in your head as much as this new track. Already a promising release for the upcoming year.
Promoting their 2010 release Massive Attack recently released this music video for the song “Paradise Circus” featuring Mazzy Star vocalist, Hope Sandoval. Needless to say the mature subject matter depicted in the video only detracts from the track. If you want to take in the track, you’re gonna have to watch this video twice. The promotional marketing of this video doesn’t seem to work in Massive Attack’s favor.

If “Norway” is any indication of what the new Beach House album Teen Dream is like, I’d say that 2010 is going to be a good year for the Baltimore duo. It’s the same Beach House we’ve come to know and love, but with a more colorful palette. One could draw Mazzy Star comparisons, what to the soft breathy vocals and dream-like atmosphere, but Beach House holds their ground as a band that’s genuinely original and pleasing to the ears.
